A huge thank you to Porto4Ageing and the Competence Center for Active and Healthy Ageing at Universidade do Porto for inviting me back to the Future Health Conference in Porto 7-8 October. Always a joy to connect with the dynamic health tech community across Portugal, Spain, and the rest of Europe!
I shared key insights on “Bottlenecks in the Commercialization of Health Tech in Europe” and why now is the time to join forces and speed up innovation.
Europe’s healthcare landscape is fragmented and complex, especially when going cross-border, but with structured frameworks, stronger collaboration, and more open markets, we can accelerate scale-up success.
In the lively panel moderated by Joana Carrilho, Virtuleap and Sioslife shared their real-world experiences, including why it can sometimes be easier to gain customers in the US or India than in Europe.
Later, I had the pleasure of moderating a discussion on digital health trends and challenges with inspiring voices from the Portuguese ecosystem. The message was clear:
- Digital health is health – and cultural change is essential.
- Solutions must solve real problems and deliver real value.
- Data access, interoperability, and digital literacy remain key to progress.
A heartfelt thank you to Prof. Elísio Costa, Joana Carrilho, and Daniela Melo for making this event possible — and for their ongoing work to strengthen the health tech and digital health ecosystem in Portugal and across Europe.
